Our Bapco Modernization Program (BMP) in SITRA, Bahrain has passed a landmark moment with the news that we have reached 40 million hours worked on the Project Site without a Lost Time Injury (LTI).

We have achieved this in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, working with the local Authorities, including The Ministry of Health, to implement all necessary precautionary measures and ensure the safest possible working environment for everyone.

Measures taken have included weekly site visits by senior managers, targeted communications, a rapid response to any safety issues raised, and performance incentives.

Any incident that does occur triggers a full investigation to find the cause and to identify actions that can be taken to stop the same thing happening again. Lessons learned are captured and shared around the site.

“We have successfully implemented various safety campaigns and these have had a positive impact on the daily work at the construction site,” said Alfonso Di Mario, Fellow Executive Project Director.

“We are continuing to ensure it remains a healthy and safe workplace for all. Our common goal is to ensure that every member of the project returns home safe and sound at the end of every day.”

The Bapco project involves expanding the capacity of the existing Sitra oil refinery from 267,000 up to 380,000 barrels per day.
