Our unique ‘green powered’ access control system at the Midor Refinery Expansion Project in Egypt has celebrated its first year of use.
The system helps enhance security and safety on the site by controlling access and monitoring movement.
In June 2020, we supplied and installed 41 poles, equipped with wi-fi antennas and medium wave (MW) mini-link devices. Each pole is powered by a solar panel and rechargeable battery and together they provide wi-fi coverage of the entire site.
We also supplied four containers that incorporate access gates to regulate the movement of people. Again, they are powered by solar panels and rechargeable batteries. They connect to the wi-fi network, which means they can be placed wherever they are needed on site. In addition, 35 portable readers have been provided to help manage the movement of people in non-fenced areas of the refinery.
Carlo Ignazio Spadavecchia, our Project Director for Midor Refinery, said: “The technology we use is cable-free and self-powered. It can trace the daily movement of between 6,000 and 8,000 workers, and operates even when it is not sunny.
“The system’s success means further use of green energy is planned at the Midor Expansion Project.”
