The Rakkestad Carbon Capture unit in Norway was officially inaugurated on October 16, at a ceremony hosted by our client Carbon Centric, joined by Florence Robine, French Ambassador to Norway, and Astrid Bergmål, State Secretary at the Norwegian Ministry of Energy, together with other distinguished guests and industry representatives.
This milestone represents an important achievement for the Shell Catalysts & Technologies and Technip Energies alliance teams, having supported Carbon Centric in delivering one of Norway’s first waste-to-energy sites equipped for full CO2 capture and utilisation.
The committed collaboration and integrated expertise of the alliance teams, supported by Technip Energies’ Norwegian subsidiary KANFA, enabled seamless execution and continuous performance optimization of Canopy C10, a modular productized carbon capture unit from the Canopy by T.EN™ range.
Designed to capture around 10,000 tonnes of CO2 per year, with a capture rate above 95%, the facility leverages the proven Shell CANSOLV® CO2 Capture System and Technip Energies’ project execution and integration expertise.
Kenneth Juul, Chief Commercial Officer and Co-Founder of Carbon Centric:
“Carbon capture is no longer a future concept. By using standardized, prefabricated, and modular systems, we reduce cost and deployment time, making it viable even for medium and smaller emitters. Combined with Carbon Centric’s end-to-end ownership model, which removes both investment and execution risk from the emitter, this unlocks carbon capture at scale.”
Julie Cranga, Senior Vice President Carbon Capture & Circularity at Technip Energies, shared:
“The plant has been in operation since October 2025 and is delivering food-grade purity CO2 for utilization - clear proof that carbon capture works in practice. This first-of-a-kind project in Norway demonstrates the power of the committed collaboration behind our alliance with Shell Catalysts & Technologies, building confidence through proven performance, ready-to-deploy solutions, and lasting client relationships. I thank Carbon Centric for its trust in this project and strongly believe that the Rakkestad project is only the beginning - it sets the stage for future carbon capture projects.”
